Stuttgart agree Angelo Stiller release clause payment as Man United plot deal

Stuttgart have taken up the release clause option in Angelo Stiller’s contract so that Manchester United will have to pay a higher fee if they want to sign him this summer.

United are among the top clubs keeping tabs on the Germany international as he continues to impress at Stuttgart.

He has nailed down a place in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad this season, with rumours around a potential transfer accelerating ahead of the summer window.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Stuttgart have bought the 25-year-old’s £35million release clause out so they can demand a much higher fee for his services.

That move could hinder Man United’s transfer plans, as they are looking to sign two midfielders but may not be willing to spend big on Stiller ahead of their other targets.

Stuttgart have the upper hand in Angelo Stiller deal after release clause move

Stiller is primarily a defensive midfielder, and the Red Devils are in need of a new player in that position as Casemiro departs this summer.

Stuttgart are believed to be open to offers for the 25-year-old, but they could now wait until after the World Cup to let him leave to capitalise on his potentially strong performances in North America.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Stuttgart have been quite smart. They’ve taken out a release clause in his contract which was around 40 million euros.

“They’ve opted to pay the player a fee to take that release clause out, so it means if Stiller goes away and has a good World Cup with Germany, it’s going to increase his price tag.”

Man United leading race to sign Bruno Guimaraes

Old Trafford chiefs are aiming to overhaul the United midfield this summer, regardless of who becomes the new permanent manager.

Stiller is a target, but sources have also told Football Insider that United are keen on Newcastle’s Guimaraes.

He is believed to be likely to join the club if Michael Carrick is handed the managerial reins full-time, but it remains to be seen if the Red Devils can afford a deal for Guimaraes and another expensive midfielder, such as Stiller.
