Sunderland sensation Chris Rigg wanted by Real Madrid – journalist

Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg is reportedly attracting interest from European giants Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, the 17-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents on the continent with scouts from the two clubs comparing him to Jude Bellingham.

Rigg signed his first professional contract at Sunderland when he turned 17 in the summer, turning down offers from rivals Newcastle United and Man United to continue his development at the Stadium of Light.

Premier League clubs are also monitoring the attacking midfielder with the view to making him the next big-money Championship signing following deals for Adam Wharton and Archie Gray.

Football Insider revealed (September 7) that Man City and Liverpool are set to battle it out to sign Wharton following his meteoric rise to prominence.

Sunderland currently sits at the Championship table, winning all four opening games and scoring 12 goals in the process.

Rigg has started three of those four as a central midfielder, including their impressive 1-0 win over recently relegated Burnley.

New manager Regis Le Bris has carried on the club’s philosophy of trusting in youth, Sunderland currently have the youngest squad in the Championship with an average age of 23.4 years.

The club will be hoping to keep their 100% record intact as they prepare for the arduous away trip to Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth on Saturday, September 14th.
