Sunderland told to 'just pay it' by Phillips after key Sanderson update
Kevin Phillips has urged Sunderland to meet Wolves’ £2million valuation for Dion Sanderson.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Stadium of Light legend claimed the transfer is an opportunity for Kyril Louis-Dreyfus to show his ambition.
According to the Daily Mail (21 June), Wolves swiftly rejected an opening bid of £1million from the Black Cats for Sanderson.
It comes after Football Insider revealed on 1 June that the Wearside club will “pull out all the stops” to sign the centre-half permanently.
Sanderson excelled for Lee Johnson’s side last season after joining on a season-long loan deal last October.
He has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Molineux.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the failed bid, Phillips said: “Just pay the £2million.
“£2million is not much for a player of his ability and potential in my eyes.
“It is an opportunity for the chairman to show his ambition. Don’t get me wrong, you do not want to he held to ransom but £2million sounds more than reasonable for a player like Sanderson.
“We know he is a superb player and we know he likes the club. I could see that at the cup final.
“For the sake of another million, in football terms, it is not a lot. Just get him on board and then that area is covered for next season.”
