Supercomputer predicts who will be relegated from the Premier League after Brighton suffer critical blow

Brighton may well be in the mix for Premier League relegation at the end of the season after a disappointing loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Ismaila Sarr‘s second-half strike saw Palace beat Brighton 1-0 at the American Express Stadium, finally ending a run of 12 consecutive games without a win for Oliver Glasner‘s side.

The Austrian is set to leave Selhurst Park in the summer, but had looked likely to leave early amid the Eagles’ terrible form.

However, Fabian Hurzeler now appears to be the man under pressure at Brighton, after his side failed to win for the fifth consecutive Premier League game.

Brighton are not planning to sack Hurzeler, but they may be forced into action if relegation begins to look like a possibility.

Supercomputer makes updated Premier League relegation prediction

Brighton would have been confident going into Sunday’s game, but they were ultimately left frustrated.

Their best chance came through Charalampos Kostoulas, who broke through on goal but could only fire at the legs of Dean Henderson.

It was Sarr who found the all-important moment for the visitors, when he was found by debutant Evann Guessand before firing past Bart Verbruggen.

The win has seen Palace leapfrog their rivals, with Brighton now just five points above 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

Opta‘s supercomputer remains confident that the Seagulls will not be involved in a relegation scrap, however, giving them just a 0.53 per cent chance of relegation.

It was Friday’s game, in which Leeds United beat Nottingham Forest, that had the biggest bearing on the supercomputer’s predictions.

The Whites now have just a 6.73 per cent chance of going down, while the two clubs below them are set to battle it out.

Premier League – bottom sixChance of relegation
Brighton0.53%
Tottenham2.38%
Leeds United6.73%
Nottingham Forest15.98%
West Ham73.54%
Burnley99.52%
Wolves99.99%

The supercomputer has given West Ham the bigger chance of going down at 73.54 per cent to Nottingham Forest’s 15.98 per cent.

Brighton face difficult fixture run

The fixtures do not get much more difficult for Brighton after a disappointing result on Sunday.

Hurzeler‘s side will next travel to take on Aston Villa, before a trip to Anfield as they attempt to progress past Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Then, the Seagulls will travel for their third consecutive away game, against high-flying Brentford, before they finally return to the American Express Stadium for matches against Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.

Several difficult games remain before the season is over, with Brighton, by no means, out of the woods in terms of relegation yet.
