Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Ciaran Clark's performance for Newcastle

By Amir Mir

Aston Villa supporters on Twitter admitted that Ciaran Clark put in a solid performance after he helped Newcastle draw 1-1 at Villa Park on Saturday evening.

Newcastle took the lead in the first-half when DeAndre Yedlin’s cross caused problems for the Villa defence, with centre-back Tommy Elphick unfortunately converting the ball into his own net.

Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo was forced to change his formation in the second-half, with substitute Aaron Tshibola nodding in from a corner in the 88th minute.

Clark received a man-of-the-match award for his performance on his return to his former club after making 14 clearances during the game.

Villa supporters felt that Clark kept Rafa Benitez’ side in the game during certain periods of the match, with the centre-back blocking a crucial Jonathan Kodjia shot in the first-half.

One fan stated that he never liked Clark during his time at Villa, but believes he did make some crucial blocks during the game.

Another supporter amusingly asked whether this is the first time the Republic of Ireland international has received a MOTM award at Villa Park.

Here is a selection of messages from Villa supporters reacting on Twitter to Clark’s performance.
