Surprise name among Tottenham trio named in Tony Gale's team of the season
By Russell Edge
Former West Ham star and current Sky Sports pundit has named three Tottenham players in his team of the season so far.
Understandably, Manchester City stars dominate the line up, with seven players included in the XI, as Pep Guardiola has guided the club to the top of the table and are currently eight points clear of the chasing pack.
Despite sitting in second place, level on points with Tottenham, there is no place for any Manchester United players in Gale’s side, instead filling the spaces with three from Spurs and rounding it off with one Chelsea player in the shape of Cesar Azpilicueta.
As for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, the former Hammer has included Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane, all of which have played their part in helping Spurs into third place after 11 games.
Gale’s full team, which he picked for the Daily Star’s website, can be seen below, with Kane partnered with Sergio Aguero, Eriksen lining up alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Vertonghen being utilised in a back three with John Stones and Azpilicueta.

However, while Vertonghen has been a rock at the back, having played every minute of the campaign so far, and Kane has netted eight goals in 10 appearances, the inclusion of Eriksen will come as a surprise to many, with the Danish international’s form having fluctuated throughout.
He has appeared in all 11 of Spurs’ league matches, and has chipped in with three goals and three assists, but has also been slated by fans for his sub-par performances, including in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
