Sven Botman sends message to Newcastle fans after crushing injury blow

Newcastle defender Sven Botman has taken to social media after going off injured in their 2-1 Premier League win over Tottenham on Saturday (January 4).

The 24-year-old was replaced by Lloyd Kelly in added time after going down injured and receiving treatment from the Newcastle medical team.

Newcastle’s win over Tottenham marked Botman’s first appearance in nearly a year after tearing his ACL in their 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Man City back in March.

Spurs started the game well, opening the scoring through Dominic Solanke after just four minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Anthony Gordon then bagged a controversial equaliser just three minutes later after VAR deemed Joelinton’s hand to be in a ‘natural position’ after the ball struck it in the build-up.

Alexander Isak continued his fine form, scoring the winner just before the break to secure an impressive three points for Eddie Howe’s side.

Sven Botman makes a timely return as Newcastle march towards the top-four

Newcastle’s win over Spurs sees them move within touching distance of the top four, while Tottenham remain in the bottom half of the table, with just one win from their last eight Premier League games.

Thankfully for Eddie Howe, Botman appears to be in high spirits despite picking up an injury after his lengthy return, taking to Instagram to celebrate the win.

Newcastle travel to Arsenal for their League Cup semi-final on Tuesday (December 7) with Eddie Howe seeking his first piece of silverware since joining the club.

Howe’s side will then face League Two Bromley in their first FA Cup game of the season, hoping for a routine win.
