Romelu Lukaku and John Stones were both handed starts against Manchester United for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial on Wednesday evening – and Everton fans were less than impressed with the £125million pair.
The Toffees’ star men have been linked with mega-money moves away this summer, with the Telegraph linking Lukaku with a £70million return to Chelsea, while Stones has been hotly tipped for a £50million move to Manchester City.
However, fans of Everton suggested they would not be too dismayed if either player left after their displays in the 0-0 draw against United.
Lukaku played for 65 minutes and missed a great chance just before half-time where he guided his header inches wide.
Meanwhile, Stones played the full match and, although he managed to keep United out, he made a few errors in defence.
The international pair both joined the Toffees in 2013 with Stones joining in the January window, while Lukaku initially joined the club on-loan before joining permanently for a club record £28million fee in 2014.
Ronald Koeman will want to keep the star pair as he looks to rejuvenate the Everton squad after a disappointing 11th placed finish last season, but fans of the Toffees won’t be too disappointed given their reactions to the pair on Wednesday evening.
@EvertonArentWe Stones misses a header at the back post to give Zlatan a chance and 30 seconds later Lukaku puts a header wide. Take the 💰.

Everton should bite Chelsea and Man City's hands off for the money being thrown around for Lukaku and Stones. #Takeitandrun

Any coincidence @Everton's worst players are Lukaku and Stones tonight? Yes, it's a friendly but Holgate and Mori playing best 💙👍

Good to see both Stones and Lukaku trying to scare off transfer interest by not doing their day jobs well

Since joining the club Koeman has only managed to purchase senior pair Maarten Stekelenburg and Idrissa Gueye from Championship pair Fulham and Aston Villa respectively, while missing out on a host of other targets.
The Dutch manager will be keen to ensure that if he does lose Lukaku and Stones that he is able to replace them both before the transfer window slams shut.
In other Everton team news, released Toffees midfielder Steven Pienaar is training with Sunderland and former boss David Moyes.
