Talks underway after bid tabled for Rangers star - confirmed

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has confirmed “talks are ongoing” over a possible move to China for striker Alfredo Morelos but admitted that the Ibrox side’s valuation of the Colombian hasn’t been met yet.
The Daily Express report that the Gers have been offered £6million plus add-ons for the 21-year-old who has scored 13 times in 27 games for the Light Blues since his summer move from HJK Helsinki.
The Gers have recently added Jason Cummings to their squad but with only Eduardo Herrera and Kenny Miller as other potential replacements, allowing Morelos to leave so close to the transfer deadline would leave the Ibrox giants short.
Murty confirmed a bid had been received but insisted Morelos was still the Gers’ “number one” striker.
“Talks are ongoing. They haven’t met our valuation, they haven’t met our requirement for what we want in terms of our squad and as it goes on we will still look at Alfredo as our number one centre forward,” Murty said, as quoted by STV.
“We’ve brought Jason [Cummings] in to support him and we have Eduardo [Herrera] as well. We have to safeguard the positive feeling around the squad and make a positive football decision.
Morelos is the top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership so far this season with 11 league goals in 22 appearances.
The former HJK Helsinki seems to score regularly wherever he is after hitting the net 46 times in 62 appearances for HJK before the Gers snapped him up for £1million during the close season.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers’ confirmation that the bid made hadn’t met the club’s valuation should keep fans happy – although the admission that talks are continuing will leave some worried the Colombian could still leave before the transfer window slams shut on Wednesday night. The Gers’ lack of alternatives is arguably their biggest concern just now and with Jason Cummings the only viable replacement for the 21-year-old it’s going to mean the Light Blues could need to bring someone in quickly. With China’s transfer window remaining open until the end of February it could be a nervy few weeks for the Ibrox support.
