Everton close in on deal for secondary striker - report

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to be offered a new long-term deal at the club, according to a report.
The Liverpool Echo report that the 20-year-old will be rewarded for his progression into the first-team setup at Goodison Park with a new five-year contract.
Calvert-Lewin has been a regular feature within Ronald Koeman’s senior squad since the new year, earning 11 appearances in all competitions over the course of the season.
The highly-rated youngster netted his first senior goal for the club during the 4-0 win over Hull in the Premier League March, but there could be plenty more to come as Everton close in on a fresh deal for the secondary striker.
The attacker was named in Koeman’s starting eleven to face Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday, although he could not prevent his side from falling to a 3-0 defeat.

He has provided a welcome fresh attacking option for the Everton chief this season, who has few reliable goalscoring options up his sleeve besides the club’s top goalscorer, Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku comfortably leads the way with 25 goals in all competitions, but Ross Barkley is the next best with just five goals.
Calvert-Lewin has also played a key role for Everton’s Under-23’s side, contributing four goals and two assists from nine appearances, in their Premier League 2 title triumph.
He had joined the Merseyside club on deadline day last summer in a £1.5million deal from Sheffield United.
Football Insider verdict
Calvert-Lewin has looked a decent prospect since his integration into the first team setup with Everton this season, and a fresh deal is no less than what he deserves for his performances. There is still plenty more to come from the youngster, but seeing him commit his long-term future to the club would be the right statement of intent for Everton. Koeman is building an exciting project at Goodison Park, and his signings from elsewhere this summer can determine which path the club take in their progression over the coming years. But it will be equally as important for Koeman to prioritise deals for his most exciting young talents, and Calvert-Lewin is a high priority.
