Arsenal striker Lucas Perez has made contact with former side Deportivo La Coruna this summer ahead of a potential switch, according to a report.
Spanish media outlet La Voz de Galacia claims that the 28-year-old forward is angling for a return to his former club after a disappointing season with the Gunners and plans talks at the end of the season.
Perez was only signed by Arsene Wenger last summer for £17million, but the Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order over the course of the season and has seen very limited playing opportunities.
The striker has impressed when given chances, and he has netted seven goals and provided five assists in his 21 league and cup games for Arsenal.
The former Dynamo Kyiv man also believes a chance of a call-up for the 2018 World Cup would be boosted if he returns to his native Spain and gets regular football.
Football Insider verdict
Perez has been somewhat of a mystery to Arsenal fans this season. He has looked decent enough when he has featured, but even at Wenger’s lowest moments, he has failed to put faith in his £17million signing. The Spaniard has incredibly only started twice in the Premier League, and has actually only been in the match day squad for just over half of the Gunners matches. Perez banged in 17 goals in La Liga last season, and he would likely return to those heights if he returns there – either on loan or on a permanent deal. It will always be a case ‘of what could have been’ for Perez as far as Arsenal fans are concerned.
