Tariq Lamptey sends memorable message after demolishing Chelsea

Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey took to social media to send a message to the fans after playing his 100th Premier League game in the 3-0 win over Chelsea on Friday (February 14).

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Brighton beat Enzo Maresca’s side for the second time in a week having previously knocked them out of the FA Cup on Saturday (February 8).

Kaoru Mitoma opened the scoring for Brighton, his second goal against Chelsea in their two meetings, after an almost impossible touch before curling past Filip Jorgensen in the opposition goal.

Fellow winger Yankuba Minteh then bagged a brace, securing all three points for Fabian Hurzeler’s side, taking them up to eighth, six points off Chelsea in fourth.

Chelsea fans were left furious with manager Enzo Maresca after the 3-0 defeat, with many taking to social media to demand the club sack the Italian.

The fullback has fallen down the pecking order under Fabian Hurzeler, starting just ten of his 15 games across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing two assists in his 876 minutes of action.

Lamptey, who made his Premier League debut under Frank Lampard at Chelsea, took to Instagram to commemorate the occasion, saying: “Great win, +3points! 100 PL appearances, onwards and upwards many more to go! Grateful to God always.”

Maresca’s side will likely fall out of the Champions League qualification spots thanks to the defeat to Brighton, with Newcastle facing Man City on Saturday (February 15).

Brighton will take on bottom-placed Southampton in their next league game on Saturday (February 22) as they seek to gain further ground on the European spots.
