Tariq Lamptey slammed for ‘childish’ incident in Brighton 7-0 Nottingham Forest

Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey was accused of being “childish” as the Seagulls collapsed to an awful 7-0 loss at Nottingham Forest, by Joe Cole.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side were looking to move above Aston Villa in the Premier League table when they took on Nottingham Forest (1 February).

Instead, Brighton suffered their heaviest defeat since 1958 [BBC Sport] as they were thrashed by the Tricky Trees.

An own goal from Lewis Dunk, a Chris Wood hat-trick, and strikes from Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Jota Silva gave Forest all three points.

Wood’s goal that sealed his hattrick in the 69th minute was the one that caught Cole’s attention, after Lamptey wrestled Gibbs-White to the ground.

The former West Ham and Chelsea winger said on TNT Sports (1.54pm): “It’s WWE, it’s so childish! Listen, I understand you have to be physical, you have to put your body in the right place. Absolute penalty.”

Football Insider Verdict

Peter O’Rourke exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Lamptey may be on his way to Premier League rivals, Leicester City.

The former Chelsea man was a hot-prospect when he first joined the Seagulls, but injuries have hindered the full-back’s development.

In the past two seasons, Lamptey has been limited to 29 Premier League appearances, with most of those being from the bench.

It is a stark contrast to the 2021/22 season, when the Ghana international made 30 appearances in the league for the Seagulls.

Injuries aside, Pervis Estupinan has established himself as the main choice at left-back for Brighton, while Joel Veltman is preferred by manager Fabian Hurzeler at right-back.

Lamptey may not be the only Brighton star on his way out of the club, with Evan Ferguson looking likely to leave the Amex Stadium this January.

In other news, Brighton may have beaten Tottenham to the signing of one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers.
