McAvennie claims Celtic star needs 'new challenge', states he should leave club

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has said that Moussa Dembele ‘needs a new challenge’ but has urged him to leave his move until the end of the season.
The young French striker has had his head turned as a couple of Premier League clubs have shown interest in signing him this January.
Brighton have been linked and Stoke watched him play for Celtic last week, according to the Scottish Sun.
However McAvennie said that he believes securing a transfer away to a team in a relegation fight is not the sort of challenge the 21-year-old needs at this point.
“I don’t think Dembele will go to a club that’s going to be fighting relegation. Why would you want to do that?
“His agent must be mad if he’s wanting to go to a Stoke or Brighton. I think he’s better than that,” McAvennie stated.
“But I think he needs a new challenge.”
Dembele has scored eight goals in his 21 appearances this season for the Hoops but his form has suffered.
Last season he scored 17 goals in 29 Premiership appearances, and added eight assists, and the general consensus is that the player will leave at some point in the near future.
McAvennie offered some advice to the young striker: “My advice would be to turn it on, get games, show what you’re worth and go at the end of the season.”
