Rangers attacker Josh Windass has revealed he wants to score “ten more goals” than last season – despite finishing as the Gers’ joint-top goalscorer with 18 goals to his name.
Windass was tied with Alfredo Morelos and admits he wants “to score more goals” and fire Steven Gerrard’s side up the Scottish Premiership table.
The 24-year-old insists that despite his lofty goal target he wants to “do the best” for the team first and foremost after a disappointing campaign last season.
“I would like to score more goals, I got a decent amount last season but I would ideally like to score ten more goals this,” Windass said, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.
“I want to do the best I can for the team and hope everyone can pull in the right direction to get where we want to be.”
Football Insider verdict:
Hitting 28 goals sounds like a pretty ambitious target but given how often Windass never really showed up in games then it shouldn’t out of reach. The former Accrington ace needs to perform more consistently this season and had a habit of failing to influence big games which just can’t continue. Steven Gerrard is building a pretty formidable side and if Windass wants to keep his place then he will need to do more in games – despite scoring 18 times last season. Despite interest from England in recent months, it certainly appears that Gerrard sees Windass as having a role to play and Gers fans will be desperate to see him finally live up to the hype. Windass will have some serious competition from the likes of Alfredo Morelos again as he tries to finish the campaign as top goalscorer and continue his impressive goalscoring form since moving to Europe with HJK Helsinki.
