Alan Hutton is excited at the prospect of a new and improved contract for Matty Cash at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villans favourite admitted the 23-year-old had already impressed and insisted he would only improve under the tutelage of Dean Smith and John Terry.
The Athletic report Villa are likely to open contract talks with the 2020 signing after his impressive debut season in the Premier League.
Cash immediately established himself as the Villans’ first-choice right-back after his move from Nottingham Forest.
He has played 25 times across all competitions but missed a handful of games between February and March through injury.
However, he is set to miss Sunday’s tie against West Brom after being sent off for two bookings in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Hutton admitted he has kept a close eye on the right-back, having played the same position before hanging up his boots.
He insisted he was well deserving of a new deal after a series of top-quality performances this term.
Discussing the possibility of a new deal for Cash, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Absolutely no-brainer. Obviously playing in the same position he’s somebody that I’ve watched really closely.
“I think he has settled in so quickly. He’s aggressive, plays with no fear, gets forward at the right times. For him, one, it’s only his first season in the Premier League. Two, I think this is only his second season playing right-back.
“He is still learning, he’s going to get better, especially with a coaching Dean Smith will give him.
“I know they work daily on the units. Obviously, John Terry takes the defenders so he’ll be working daily on improving.
“We can see that in his performances. He’s one definitely for the future. Tie him down after a great first season and everybody will be happy.”
