‘The next Samuel Eto’o’ – Newcastle fans react on Twitter to reported interest in £9m-rated forward

Newcastle are reportedly close to signing Porto forward Vincent Aboubakar – and the club’s supporters are very excited about the prospect on Twitter.

The Daily Express report that Rafael Benitez’s side are confident they can secure a deal for the £9million-rated striker this week.

It is understood they have blown Rennes out of the water for the 25-year-old’s signature by offering a huge £2.5million in annual wages.

Aboubakar spent last season out on loan from Portuguese giants Porto and impressed in Turkey with Besiktas.

The pacy striker made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and supplying four assists in return.

Benitez is set to strengthen his options ahead of a Premier League return next season and Aboubakar could be a fresh face at St James’ Park.

Newcastle fans are excited about the prospect of signing the prolific forward and feel he would be a brilliant addition.

One Newcastle fan compared Aboubakar with footballing icon Samuel Eto’o, who is regarded as one of the best ever players from Africa.

The 36-year-old made 118 international appearances for Cameroon and scored 56 goals, while Aboubakar has played 49 times and scored 14 goals for the same nation.

Eto’o is still playing for Turkish top-flight club Antalyaspor and scored 18 goals in just 30 appearances last season.

He is most recognised for his spell with Spanish giants Barcelona where he won three league titles and two Champions Leagues, while also winning Europe’s elite competing a third time with Inter Milan.
