Darren Bent claims that striker Michail Antonio is irreplaceable for West Ham as the club prepare to offer him a new contract.

The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he hopes the Irons can get a deal wrapped up “sooner rather than later”.

As revealed by Football Insider, the West Ham board have held talks over extending the 30-year-old’s stay and are set to table a two-year offer with the option of a one-year extension.

The former Nottingham Forest hitman’s stock has hardly been higher after he netted four goals against Norwich City.

However, Bent insists that Antonio is so much more than just a goalscorer for the Hammers and that they would find it almost impossible to fill the void were he to leave.

Bent told Football Insider: “If West Ham were to lose him, I don’t know what they’d do because there’s no one about like him.

“We’re not just talking about his technique attributes, we’re talking his physical attributes; how he runs all day, his temperament, how hard he works for the team, those type of players you can’t replace.

“It’s going to be difficult for them but you like to think they’d get it sorted sooner rather than later.”

Antonio doubled his goal tally for the season against Norwich with eight goals and three assists under his belt in 21 Premier League appearances.

He has played a total of 151 times for West Ham to date.
