Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings will be desperate to seal a return to Aston Villa after playing a major role in their return to the Premier League, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds United star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims that the Villans will be doing all they can to secure his permanent signing from the Cherries and that the player himself will be keen on reuniting with Dean Smith.
Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Villa are seeking out alternative options if they cannot get Mings on board, with the defender now back at his parent club.
However, Whelan believes that both club and player will be looking to make a move from Bournemouth, now the Villans’ Premier League rivals courtesy of promotion, happen before the transfer window slams shut.
“I think Tyrone will want to go to Villa,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“He’s been part of their success last season, he was a big part of them improving at the back. They will go all out to get Tyrone Mings, there is no doubt about that.
“It doesn’t mean that two centre-halves is enough. You need four, you need strength in depth in the Premier League and unfortunately, they don’t see (Tommy) Elphick as that Premier League centre half that can do the job but they’ve got the money to go and spend.
“They can afford to go and get two new centre-halves. That’s the beauty of getting promoted, you get a massive sum of money to try and keep yourself in. Aston Villa are a big side so they can attract these players as well.”
The giant defender made 18 appearances for Villa during his half a season at the club, only five less than he has made at his parent club, two serious injuries leaving him on the sidelines at various times on the south coast.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that a mammoth £15million bid is on its way.
