Don Goodman believes that Leeds United have a strong chance of getting promotion this season if they can replicate the display they showed against Nottingham Forest.
Thomas Christiansen’s side set down a marker before the international break as they dispatched Forest 2-0 at the City Ground in an impressive away performance.
The Yorkshire giants are currently third in the Championship table after going unbeaten in their opening five games and have aspirations of promotion this season.
They return to action against Burton on Saturday at Elland Road and the Whites will be aiming to record a fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league.
Sky pundit Goodman was blown away by Leeds’ performance against Forest and stated there is no reason they can’t be in the promotion mix this season.
“Leeds gave the best performance that I’ve seen for a very long time in the Championship when they won at Nottingham Forest,” Goodman told Sky Sports. “It blew me away because they did it with such control against another team that had started the season well and were full of confidence themselves.
“But Leeds went there and really dominated them, they looked very energetic with and without the ball and they’ve set the standard for themselves now. If they can perform at that level then there’s no doubt they’ll have a great chance of promotion.
Christiansen has been tasked with trying to get Leeds out of the Championship and has strong start has made him very popular with fans.
His predecessor Garry Monk guided the Whites to a seventh-placed finish last season, but the new manager has put his own stamp on the squad and they may even look better equipped for a promotion charge this year.
The likes of Ezgjan Alioski and Samu Saiz have settled very quickly into English football, while the familiar faces of Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper and Eunan O’Kane continue to impress.
