Thomas Christiansen issues warning to Leeds squad ahead of clash v Birmingham
By Danny Wright
Thomas Christiansen has warned his Leeds United squad that they cannot down tools and expect victory against Birmingham at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
The Whites have been in irresistible form in the early stages of this season having managed to avoid defeat in their opening six Championship matches while not conceding since the opening day win against Bolton.
Saturday’s 5-0 mauling of Burton typified the start that Leeds have had under the charge of Christiansen, but the Elland Road manager doesn’t want to see complacency creep into his side against a Birmingham side that are 21st in the second-tier standings.
“I don’t believe ‘fear’ is a word they’ll want to use but respect – I would imagine they’ll have that after the good performances we’ve had, the same as we have for Birmingham,” said Christiansen, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“We have to have big respect for all of our opponents. This league is so competitive and dangerous that you cannot relax for a moment.

“When you see the work well-reflected in the players and the results then no-one can complain. You have to enjoy it but again, we will have many games this season where things will not work out as we want. This is where we have to pull up the arms of our shirts and stay together.”
Like Christiansen, Harry Redknapp had a very busy summer where a number of major additions were made to his squad, especially Jota, who arrived from Brentford for £6million on deadline day.
While Leeds have hit the ground running with their new-look squad, Birmingham haven’t, and have only picked up one win in their first six matches, scoring just three goals in the process to give them the worst attack in the Championship.
The Whites hadn’t scored a league goal at Elland Road before their 5-0 demolition of Burton at the weekend, which saw debutant Pierre-Michel Lasogga open his account with the Yorkshire club by netting a brace.
