‘Thomas Frank to pitch Bryan Mbeumo to follow him from Brentford to Tottenham’

Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has been tipped to follow Thomas Frank to Tottenham as he closes in on being appointed as their new head-coach.

Spurs’ season ended on a high note last month as they won the Europa League against Manchester United, but their glory did not save Ange Postecoglou’s job following a dismal campaign that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League.

Football Insider recently revealed that chairman Levy was set to relieve Postecoglou of his duties, and Spurs made their official announcement of the Australian’s departure on 6 June following “a review of performances and after significant reflection.”

Brentford boss Frank is in pole position to land the vacant role, following a recent report by Football Insider, and Spurs have opened formal talks with him ahead of a potential appointment, with the club’s chiefs believed to be “increasingly confident” of a deal being struck soon [The Times].

Another key Bees man who looks set to leave the West London club this summer is star forward Mbeumo, with his standout form seeing Football Insider report that the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United are all keen to sign him, but Spurs have also been mooted with interest in the 25-year-old and could take advantage as Frank also makes the move across the capital.

Bryan Mbeumo backed to make join Spurs over Man United on Thomas Frank condition

Frank looks set to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium soon, and he will surely fancy continuing his link-up with Cameroonian international attacker Mbeumo, who recently enjoyed a stellar campaign with 20 strikes and eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances.

The Mirror have claimed that the Danish boss has told Spurs chiefs that he wants the club to rival Man United for Mbeumo, after the Red Devils recently saw a £55m [The Telegraph] bid for his services rejected, if he agrees to take over as head-coach.

Speaking live on talkSPORT on Monday (9 June), former Spurs frontman Darren Bent backed Mbeumo to follow Frank to North London if his choice boils down to Tottenham or United this summer, saying: “It’s a difficult one, because it’s Manchester United, which is obviously a bigger club, right? But, there is no guarantee…there is no better place than going to a club where you have had the manager before, and you have had success with that manager.

He continued, adding: “Mbeumo, under Thomas Frank, has been incredible, right? He’s turned himself into a superstar, what he did last season, so if Frank comes to him and goes ‘I’m going to Tottenham,’ he will say to Bryan Mbeumo, I know exactly what he will say to him: ‘you’re going to go to Man United…there is no guarantees you are going to play, you come to me, we’ve worked together and you know exactly how I operate, you will play every single week for Tottenham.”

Bent then rounded off his verdict by stating: “If Thomas Frank gets the Tottenham job and says to him ‘trust me, you’re part of the rebuild and I’m buying you to play,’ he will opt to go to Tottenham over Man United.”

Spurs must make Mbeumo their main priority as Frank takes over

Football Insider verdict

Mbeumo’s stellar form in the Premier League has certainly not gone unnoticed by top clubs, but Spurs need to act fast to make him theirs after former United chief scout Mick Brown recently revealed to Football Insider that the 25-year-old is pushing to move to Old Trafford and has made his desire to leave Brentford known.

Barring any late snags, Frank is due to be the new man at the helm for the Lilywhites ahead of next season, and the relationship between him and the Cameroonian international is not one that can be understated when it comes to the possibility of changing his mind over a move this summer.

Mbeumo sung Frank’s praises in an interview with Sky Sports last November, insisting that he had made him a better player by working on his weaknesses as a player and helping him elevate the mental side of his game.

It is clear that the two work well together, with Brentford having achieved an impressive ninth-placed finish last term as the 25-year-old finished third in the combined goals and assists charts for the top-flight, only behind Mo Salah and Alexander Isak.

Spurs need things to quickly go their way this week if they want to make a move for Mbeumo though, but if United have not wrapped up a deal for his services by the time Frank is officially appointed, their chiefs must make the Bees star their main priority in the transfer window, as he would be a clear improvement on their current attacking options.
