Three reasons why Aston Villa can cause an upset against Tottenham in the FA Cup
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Aston Villa travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon to take on Tottenham in a mouth-watering FA Cup third round clash.
In previous years gone by Villa would make a visit to north London as a Premier League outfit but after their first relegation in nearly three decades last season, they are now a Championship team looking to return to the promise land.
Here, Football Insider analyses the three reasons why the Midlands club can cause an upset and knock Spurs out of the FA Cup.
The experience of Steve Bruce
The Villa manager holds a vast amount of experience, whether it be from his playing days or now during his managerial days. Either way, that experience will come to use during the clash against Spurs. Villa no longer have the squad that used to challenge for the top four under Martin O’Neill but instead a second-tier side trying to escape the difficulties of the Championship. Therefore, they will be huge underdogs going into the fixture and Bruce knows how to win as an underdog. During his time at Hull, he guided the Yorkshire club into the 2014 FA Cup final where they were narrowly beaten by Arsenal. Bruce will be looking to use some of that inspiration on Sunday.

Academy graduate Jack Grealish
If Bruce’s side are to cause an upset then academy graduate Jack Grealish will be the one that performs. The 21-year-old can be the one that produces that moment of magic against the Premier League side. Grealish has the ability to carry the ball and beat defenders at will. The home team may even find Grealish winning a lot of fouls which Villa should put to the best of use.
Mauricio Pochettino starting XI
Over the busy festive period, Spurs have had a lot of games which may lead to manager Mauricio Pochettino resting his senior stars. They most recently completed a 2-0 win over Premier League leaders Chelsea on Wednesday and if the Argentine puts out a weakened team then Villa should make full use of it. Regardless of who plays it will still be a tough game but the experience within the Villa side should ensure, at the very least, they make a game out of it.
In other Aston Villa news, it has been reported that a European giant is targeting this Villa defender.
