Midfielder must be sold in January - Three things learned about Newcastle from defeat v Burnley

COMMENT by Russell Edge

Newcastle United saw their poor away form continue this season as they slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday evening.

Jeff Hendrick netted the only goal of the game to secure the three points, in a clash which was lacking attacking quality from both sides.

Both the Magpies and the Clarets were set up to frustrate the opposition forwards and it had appeared to have been a successful move for Rafael Benitez’s side, until Ayoze Perez surrendered possession and Burnley capitalised to great effect.

It means that the north east side have picked up just one win, a 1-0 victory over Swansea, from their away games this season, something the Spanish manager will be disappointed with considering their fine away form in the Championship.

The result also sees Newcastle fall down to ninth, leapfrogged by Sean Dyche’s side who go two points ahead with the win, and sit five points clear of Everton in the final of the relegation spots.
