Midfielder must be sold in January – Three things learned about Newcastle from defeat v Burnley
Shelvey a cut above
If there was one man who was going to make the difference for Newcastle against the Clarets, it was going to be Jonjo Shelvey.
He was afforded time and space by the home side and he certainly tried to take advantage of it, pinging balls forward like a quarterback in American football.
While not every pass was sublime in technique – although there were a couple on display – he was effective and positive in his distribution, while his footballing intelligence is excellent.
If he had the right players to deliver the ball to, then maybe Newcastle could have picked up a result, but it appeared they were lacking in their positioning and decision making.
Shelvey is a step above the rest, and it is actually harming the Magpies at times.
