Rangers cruised past Aberdeen in Wednesday night’s Scottish Premiership clash between the two sides with a comfortable 3-0 win at Ibrox.

First-half goals from James Tavernier and Carlos Pena had the Gers 2-0 up by the break after a really impressive opening half.

Tavernier grabbed his second with 20 minutes left after firing home from Josh Windass’ cross.

The two sides meet again on Sunday at Pittodrie with Rangers looking to draw level on points with Derek McInnes’ side after the Ibrox win closed the gap between them to three points.

Interim manager Graeme Murty sprung a tactical surprise by changing to a diamond midfield and two strikers as his side picked up their first win in three games.

Murty also axed Daniel Candeias in a surprise move to restore Carlos Pena to the starting XI and was repaid by a goal from the Mexican midfielder.
