Football Insider analyses the three talking points after Aston Villa record a 2-0 win against Bristol City on Tuesday night.

Kodjia’s performances a talking point

Jonathan Kodjia scored and missed a penalty for Villa in what was another mixed display from the former Bristol City man. His header in the second half was brilliantly finished and it was followed up by a beautiful set up for Conor Hourihane to slot home the second. Kodjia has scored 12 goals this season, but his selfish play in recent weeks has sparked debate amongst supporters as to whether he is a team player. His performances on the field have become more of a talking point as he continues to score and frustrate the fans at the same time.

Jedinak an underrated figure

During his absence in January and early February, Mile Jedinak was a huge miss for Steve Bruce’s side and supporters will be glad he is now back in the team. The combative midfielder may not have the legs to go forward or produce the creativity, but he does provide a wall for the defence and allow those around him to produce the goods. There is absolutely no doubt that he is an underrated figure in the Villa side.

Hutton should leave in the summer

Since James Bree arrived at Villa, Alan Hutton’s performance have no doubt improved but in truth, the quality is not there from the senior man. The right-back is no doubt very much liked by supporters because of his combative style, but the Midlands club need someone who can provide that all round quality from full back. With youngster Bree in the ranks and Ritchie De Laet sent to return from injury in the summer, Hutton’s contract, which ends in the summer, should not be renewed. Though, he should be applauded for being one of very few to wear the shirt with pride in recent seasons.

In other Aston Villa news, Nigel Spink has delivered a scathing assessment of this key man.
