Tijjani Reijnders and Ianis Hagi respond to Rangers ace Danilo’s ‘home’ message

Danilo Pereira caught the attention of Man City’s Tijjani Reijnders and Ianis Hagi as the Rangers star took to social media.

The 26-year-old endured yet another difficult campaign since arriving from Feyenoord on a £6million deal in 2023 [Sky Sports], facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Despite his injury problems, the Brazilian has still managed to notch six goals and four assists in each of his two seasons with the Gers, even while only starting eight league matches last term.

With 20 goal contributions in very limited minutes on the pitch, there is no doubt over the player’s abilities in the final third, but new manager Russell Martin has a tough decision to make on his future.

Football Insider understands that Martin wants to build his squad around Nico Raskin and Hamza Igamane, which would likely see Danilo resort to his normal spot on the bench when fit.

The 2025/26 campaign is still a few weeks away, and anything can happen during the summer transfer window, but the striker just looks to be enjoying some downtime away from Ibrox.

Taking to Instagram (20 June), Danilo wrote: “Back on home soil – recharged and reloaded. Brazil, always in my heart,” with Man City‘s new signing Reinders and Hagi liking the post.

Russell Martin to lead Scottish Premiership title charge at Ibrox

Football Insider verdict

As a new era begins in Glasgow, the ambitions and targets must change as their Old Firm rivals, Celtic, continue to move further and further away from them, off and on the pitch.

With new owners certainly comes a lot of excitement among the Union Bears, with multiple high-profile changes being needed at Ibrox, but it is bound to be far more challenging than flicking a switch.

There remains a lot of deadweight in the squad, and with Rangers struggling to even offload Cyriel Dessers, who has scored 51 goals in 109 games, deals need to be done at both ends of the spectrum.

Exciting and talented players are beginning to be linked to Rangers, such as Peterborough’s Kwame Poku, but the owners will be expecting to seal some exits before getting the entertaining deals done.

Martin has taken on quite a challenge, with the Light Blues finishing 10 points behind the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership table, but he will have known that when entering into talks for the job.

It will be a very long process for the club to reach its heights once again, but with steps being taken in the right direction, there is every right for the supporters to start feeling optimistic again.
