Tino Livramento reacts to Jacob Murphy’s Newcastle message amid Man City links

Tino Livramento has reacted to a new message from Newcastle teammate Jacob Murphy amid rumours linking the right-back with a summer move to Man City.

Livramento has emerged as one of the best young right-backs in the world since his move to Newcastle from Southampton in 2023 for an initial £32million [BBC] fee.

He signed a five-year contract at St James’ Park upon arrival, and Chelsea supporters will feel like their club made a mistake in selling him to Saints in 2021, given his impressive form in the two years since.

The 22-year-old’s strong form in the most recent campaign has seen him linked away from Tyneside, with former scout Mick Brown revealing to Football Insider before the season even ended that Newcastle were putting plans in place for Livramento’s exit amid interest from Man City.

Brown told Football Insider on 1 July that the Citizens are set to step up their interest in Livramento as Pep Guardiola aims to bring in a new right-back following Kyle Walker’s exit, and Football Insider revealed on 6 July that Newcastle are doing all they can to try and keep Livramento right now, but it could be to no avail.

Jacob Murphy issues Newcastle United pre-season update

Livramento remains a Newcastle player for now, and he was given an extended break by the club after helping England Under-21 win their European Championships in Slovakia last month.

The Magpies are in Austria for their pre-season tour, and star winger Jacob Murphy took to Instagram on Thursday (17 July) to post a number of pictures of him in action with his teammates alongside a caption of Austrian flag and film frames emojis.

Newcastle teammate Livramento liked his post amid uncertainty around his future, while Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman and John Ruddy were among those who did the same.

Livramento should make the move to Man City

Football Insider verdict

Based off his Premier League performances in the last few years, the sky is the limit for Livramento in terms of his potential as a right-back, and he will want another stellar campaign in 2025/26 to be able to book his ticket to the World Cup with England next year.

Newcastle are facing a dilemma of sorts in the transfer market right now, with Hugo Ekitike set to join Liverpool and the Magpies missing out on numerous targets, so it is understandable as to why they will not want to part ways with a key player like Livramento anytime soon.

With that said, a move to the Etihad Stadium will obviously appeal to the 22-year-old due to City’s status and spending power, and he would have a real chance to stake a claim to be Guardiola’s starting right-back if he was to join them this summer.

There is no recognised right-back in his squad, as Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are both able to play there but have a preference for midfield, so the chance to join City and potentially become a first-choice in his main position for a number of years to come has to be too good to turn down for Livramento.
