Tino Livramento reacts to ‘thank you’ message from Newcastle man as exit looms
Tino Livramento has reacted to a message of thanks from an outcasted Newcastle player as speculation mounts around the right-back’s future at St James’ Park.
Livramento has emerged as one of the best young full-backs in the world since his move to Newcastle from Southampton in 2023 for an initial £32million [BBC] fee.
He signed a five-year contract at St James’ Park upon arrival, and Chelsea supporters will feel like their club made a mistake in selling him to Saints in 2021, given his impressive form in the two years since.
The 22-year-old’s strong form in the most recent campaign has seen him linked away from Tyneside, with former scout Mick Brown revealing to Football Insider on 1 July that Man City are set to step up their interest in Livramento as Pep Guardiola aims to bring in a new right-back following Kyle Walker’s exit.
Football Insider revealed on 6 July that Newcastle are doing all they can to try and keep Livramento right now, and The Times (21 July) have reported that they are readying a six-year contract offer for the England international, but their efforts could be to no avail due to the allure of a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Matt Targett thanks Newcastle fans after pre-season trip
Livramento helped England Under-21’s win the European Championships in Slovakia last month, and was granted extra time-off by Eddie Howe as a result, so did not initially travel with his teammates on their pre-season trip to Austria or play in the Magpies’ friendly loss to Celtic [Shields Gazette].
He often played at left-back last term due to Lewis Hall’s injury concerns, and was consistently picked ahead of Targett, who made just five appearances all season.
The 29-year-old has been featuring in the Magpies’ pre-season games despite rarely playing competitively, and he posted some pictures from the game on Instagram on Monday (28 July) alongside the caption: “Thank you Singapore.”
His message to the fans was liked by Livramento, while Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Hall and Kieran Trippier all did the same and Sven Botman left a red heart emoji in the replies.
Livramento should push to join Man City
Football Insider verdict
Former scout Brown revealed to Football Insider before the season even ended that Newcastle were putting plans in place for Livramento’s exit amid interest from Man City, and that comes as no surprise based off his impressive Premier League performances in the last few years.
Newcastle are facing a dilemma of sorts in the transfer market right now, with Alexander Isak wanting a move away and the Magpies missing out on numerous targets, so it is understandable as to why they will not want to part ways with a key player like Livramento anytime soon.

With that said, a move to the Etihad Stadium will obviously appeal to the 22-year-old due to Man City’s status and spending power, and he would have a real chance to stake a claim to be Guardiola’s starting right-back if he was to join them this summer.
There is no recognised right-back in his squad, as Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are both able to play there but have a preference for midfield, so the chance to join them and potentially become a first-choice in his main position for a number of years to come surely has to be too good to turn down for Livramento.
