Toby Alderweireld sent a Twitter message to Tottenham fans after the disappointing 1-1 draw against Brighton on Tuesday night.
The centre-back – making his first Premier League appearance since October – said, “Not the result we wanted”.
He went on to say that he was happy to be back and thanked Spurs fans for all the support they’ve shown him.

Alderweireld has been missing since October with injury, but has made two FA Cup appearances this year.
However, he’s been kept away from the Premier League amid rumours it’s because of his refusal to sign a new contract and that he will be sold in the summer.
Football Insider verdict:
On tonight’s showing, Tottenham fans will be hoping more than ever that Alderweireld’s contract situation can be sorted out. He looked assured back in the centre of defence alongside Jan Vertonghen, and aside from the stupid penalty that Serge Aurier gave away, they never looked like conceding. However, it’s looking unlikely. If Alderweireld was going to sign a new contract he would surely have done it by now, and Pochettino only uses him when he wants to rest his first-team players. That all hints at a summer departure, but if that was his last game for Spurs, he put in a solid shift and fans will hopefully remember him as a fantastic player and servant for the club.
