Alfredo Morelos cannot be angry he failed to seal a summer move away from Rangers after Ross Wilson lifted the lid on their transfer agreement, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has applauded the club for being fair and open with the Colombia international about his future.

Speaking to Rangers TV, Wilson confirmed that the club had an agreement in place where they would sell the 24-year-old if their valuation was met and that they rejected offers which fell short of their asking price.

Despite interest from the likes of Lille, Morelos remained at Rangers and has been a key player for Steven Gerrard this season.

Hutton has insisted that the Gers handled the speculation in the correct manner and that the striker can have no complaints a deal did not take place.

Asked if Rangers dealt with the Morelos transfer situation right, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think if that’s how it worked and that’s the honest truth, then yes.

“They basically put their cards on the table and said: ‘Right, if an offer comes in that we’re happy with, say it’s £20million, then you can go.’ The problem is that that offer didn’t come in.

“It is what it is, Rangers have put their cards on the table, they’ve told him the situation, he’s obviously agreed to that thinking that that money would come in for him but it didn’t. You can’t be angry about that, they’ve told him he can go if they meet the requirements of the deal.

“It never happened so that’s his problem, he has to deal with that – it’s not come in, get your head down, work hard and focus on Rangers. That’s what he needs to do, I think it’s fair. If he (Wilson) is coming out and saying that then fair play to Rangers.”

Wilson told Rangers TV: “We had interest in Alfredo and we had an agreement that if there was a club that met a valuation that we had in mind then we would look at that.

“That valuation wasn’t met and we rejected some offers for him because they didn’t meet that valuation and he remains with us going forward and we will see what the future holds for him.”
