Tom Boyd raves about Celtic rising star, explains how he causes problems to opponents

Former Celtic captain Tom Boyd has raved about youngster Kristoffer Ajer and has made it clear that he believes the Norwegian has a huge future at the Scottish champions.

The 19-year-old centre-back has started the last three games for the Hoops, and they have kept a clean sheet in them all.

Boyd has disclosed the reasons why he thinks rising star Ajer will make it with the Scottish Premiership league leaders, and he has pinpointed his ability to bring the ball out from defence to begin attacks as a big factor in that.

“He can step out with the ball at the right times and you can see the breaks he makes out of the backline and into advanced positions which causes so many problems for opponents”, he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“That’s a great asset to have, but you have to do things properly first and foremost in defending and Kris is doing that.”

The Norwegian has replaced Jozo Simunovic in the starting line-up for Celtic in recent weeks. and has impressed many with his mature performances in his partnership with Dedryck Boyata.

Ajer seems likely to start in the Bhoys’ next league game, the Old Firm derby against Rangers at Celtic Park.

The game shouldn’t hold any fears for the teenager as he spent last season learning all about Scottish football whilst on loan at a struggling Kilmarnock side, and was a stand-out player for the Rugby Park side.

The Hoops go into the game 11 points ahead of their old rivals, and have responded well to the end of their unbeaten run against Hearts earlier this month, winning the three league games since then.
