Tom Pearce made his senior debut for Leeds on Saturday in the 2-1 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday and said the fans were “different class”.
It wasn’t the fairytale debut for the youngster and he found himself pitched into a side up against it in the Championship.
In the form table since Boxing Day Leeds are bottom, and they showed why yesterday as they laboured against a side struggling at the wrong end of the Championship.
They almost salvaged a point when substitute Jay-Roy Grot scored his first goal for Leeds but Sheffield Wednesday snatched the three points at the death.
Pearce sent a message to Leeds fans on Sunday, saying he was “happy” to make his debut for the club.
He saved special praise for the Leeds fans who he called “different class” right the way through the match.

Football Insider verdict:
It was great to see Pearce make his debut for Leeds yesterday, although it could have come at a better time. However, despite a nervy start the youngster put in a decent shift and should get more game-time before the end of what’s been a wretched season for Leeds. Fans will appreciate him taking time out to send this message and getting them on side is a canny first move for the young defender. We wish him well.
