'Dear me' - Tony Cottee grades West Ham display v Manchester United
By Aramide Oladipo
Tony Cottee has graded West Ham United’s performance against Manchester United as an “E” as they were humbled at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Slaven Bilic’s men suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat on the opening day of the new Premier League season and former Hammer Cottee described it as the “worst result of the weekend”.
West Ham were powerless in stopping United new boy Romelu Lukaku from scoring a brace on his home debut with Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba also finding themselves on the scoresheet.
The Hammers only managed to get one shot on target throughout the entire match and the result means that they end the first weekend of the new campaign at the bottom of the league table.
Expressing his opinion on the Sky Sports website, Cottee was very critical of West Ham’s display and he stated that they need to respond in the upcoming Premier League fixture.

“Dear me. I have to give my former club an E because it was the worst result of the weekend,” he said.
“It was a poor result and a poorer performance.
“They have got to get their heads down and bounce back at Southampton next week.”
Although new summer signings Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez all featured from the start, West Ham struggled to compete against Jose Mourinho’s side.
The East London club face another tricky away fixture next weekend as they take on Southampton at St Mary’s.
The Hammers faced a similar task last season as they bounced back from an opening day defeat against Chelsea to beat Bournemouth in the following game.
In other West Ham news, supporters have destroyed this summer signing after his display against Manchester United on Sunday.
