Tony Xia issues battlecry ahead of Aston Villa Boxing Day clash

By Amir Mir

Tony Xia has urged Aston Villa to secure their fifth consecutive win at home as they prepare for a Boxing Day clash with Burton Albion which is nearing a sell-out crowd.

Chinese businessman Xia purchased the Midlands club in June, following their relegation from the Premier League, which has since seen a number of changes.

The Championship side are close to selling-out Villa Park for the first time since their top-flight clash with Liverpool in the 2011.

They have promotion expert Steve Bruce at the helm after they sacked Roberto Di Matteo as manager in October.

He has guided the club to six wins in his 11 matches and Xia wants that run to continue against Nigel Clough’s side as he posted this message on his personal Twitter account.

Villa Park holds a capacity crowd of 42,785, with the Holte End being the main stand at one of England’s most famous grounds.

It will witness two mouth-watering festive fixtures. First of all the clash against newly-promoted Burton, before a match against Yorkshire giants Leeds on December 29 to round off the year.

Bruce’s side are unbeaten on home soil this term, fending off competition from the likes of Newcastle, Huddersfield and Wolves.

They beat QPR during their last fixture when striker Jonathan Kodjia scored the only goal of the game to secure a much-needed three points in their promotion push.
