Tony Xia posts team news Twitter message ahead of Aston Villa clash against Leeds

By Amir Mir

Tony Xia has stated on Twitter that Aston Villa’s youth players will get their chances this season ahead of their clash with Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday evening.

The Midlands side have used only two youngsters this term, with teenage duo Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Andre Green making brief first-team appearances.

Striker Hepburn-Murphy was a second-half substitute against Newcastle under former boss Roberto Di Matteo, while winger Green has made five Championship appearances from the bench, and started in the EFL Cup defeat to Luton Town in August.

Academy duo Jack Grealish, 21, and midfielder Gary Gardner, 24, have been regulars this season as Villa aim for instant promotion back to the Premier League.

Ahead of the game against Leeds, Xia posted this message on his personal Twitter account.

Villa are currently seven games unbeaten under their new manager Steve Bruce as they travel to Yorkshire to take on Garry Monk’s side.

The Whites have won four of their last five league games and they currently sit in a play-off spot, four points ahead of Villa.

Leeds were knocked out of the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night when Liverpool beat them 2-0.

Villa could close the gap on the top six to one point with a win if earlier results go their way.
