A clearly emotional Tony Xia revealed he “can’t find words” to express his joy after Aston Villa secured a 1-0 win against Derby at Villa Park on Saturday.
Captain James Chester’s first goal for the club saw Villa end a dismal run of 10 matches without a win, losing eight of those in the process, as he headed in from close range in the first half.
Chairman Xia revealed his delight on his personal Twitter account as struggled to express his feelings for a victory that eases the pressure on the team amid fears of a relegation battle.
The Chinese businessman also thanked supporters for “standing together through the most difficult spell”.

With a potential relegation dog fight on the cards, three points against Steve McClaren’s side sees them open the gap between themselves and the drop zone to eight points.
In their previous 34 league and cup outings, Villa have managed just six clean sheets but a defence of Alan Hutton, Nathan Baker, Chester and Neil Taylor kept Derby at bay.
However, the victory was slightly soured deep into injury time when versatile star Leandro Bacuna appeared to headbutt the linesman after disagreeing with a decision.
The Midlands outfit will now look to build on the win as they play host to Bristol City on Tuesday night, after the Robins earned an impressive point away at Newcastle.
