Tottenham have put a £16million (€18million) price tag on the head of winger Erik Lamela, according to a report.
Inter Milan news website FCInternews.it claim that the North London side are looking for over half of the £27million they spent on securing the 25-year-old from Roma back in 2013, with his contract set to expire in 2020.
Italian giants Inter are said to be interested in a move for a winger this summer and have targeted the Argentinian international as a potential new arrival, but are hoping to secure his signature for a fee in the region of £13.4million (€15million)
Last season saw the 23 cap international, who can play on either flank, make just 14 appearances across all competitions as a hip injury ruled him out from October onward.
The injury is set to keep the forward out of the club’s Premier League opener against Newcastle in August, as he looks to return and add to the 121 appearances made, 19 goals scored and 31 assists provided since his debut.
Football Insider verdict
The status of Erik Lamela is set to pose a difficult challenge to Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino this summer. He has shown the ability which convinced the club to splash out on him, but the quality has been inconsistent and he has struggled at times with the intensity of the Premier League. A fee of £16million seems a fair price, but would Spurs be able to bring in a reasonable replacement for the same money? Plus, with the club yet to make a senior signing during the window, letting go of squad players could set them back if they fail to sign their top targets. They need to keep a hold of those they need, and only sell the squad players for high prices, while prioritising the exit of the deadwood around the club. While it has been a quiet start for the Lilywhites, it is not likely to stay that way for long.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are lining up a move for an Inter Milan attacker.
