Tottenham 23-year-old: I could have signed for PL rivals in summer

By Danny Wright

Tottenham’s loaned-out striker Vincent Janssen has revealed that he could have signed for West Brom or Brighton during the summer transfer window.

Janssen, 23, had been widely linked with a move away from North London all summer after a poor debut season with Spurs following his move from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar last year.

He ended up leaving Tottenham to sign for Fenerbahce on a season-long loan deal earlier this month after Mauricio Pochettino opted to bring in Fernando Llorente from Swansea as back-up to Harry Kane after an impressive debut season in the Premier League for the Welsh club.

However now, Janssen has revealed that he had offers on the table from some of Spurs’ Premier League rivals, including Tony Pulis’ West Brom and newly promoted Brighton.

“I could have joined West Brom or Brighton,” he said to Turkish media outlet Fanatik, as translated by the Birmingham Mail.

“What would have happened had I joined one of them? I do not want to think about it.

“I do not think about it.”

Janssen has had a brilliant start to like in Turkey with Fenerbahce, scoring two goals and supplying two assists in three appearances.

He was in hot form last weekend when he scored in the fierce Istanbul derby clash with champions Besiktas and will no doubt have made himself an instant hero of the Fenerbahce fans with his display.

The Dutch international made 38 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham last season, scoring just six goals in the process.

He already looks like he is going to be on course to smash that tally this season in the Turkish Super Lig.

In other Tottenham news, this in-form striker has been ruled out of Spurs’ clash with Huddersfield at the weekend.
