Anderton: Tottenham star is better than England record-breaking legend
By Russell Edge
Darren Anderton believes that Tottenham forward Harry Kane is a better striker than England legend Alan Shearer, but still believes the club need to bring in another goal-scorer this summer.
Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals across his career, for the likes of Blackburn and Newcastle.
He also went on to make 63 appearances for England, scoring 30 goals, but former Spurs man Anderton believes Kane can become even better than that.
He told 888sport: ““It would be a massive ask to break Alan Shearer’s record but can he do it? Yes, why not?
“Al could hold the ball up, he was a beast who knocked people around, but Harry Kane has a little bit more.”

Kane has scored 70 goals in 113 Premier League appearances for Tottenham, and five goals in 17 outings for the English national side.
However, despite his impressive form which has seen him score over 20 league goals in each of the last three seasons, Anderton believes that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino needs to invest in another striker this summer.
At present the Argentinian boss has Kane and Dutch forward Vincent Janssen at his disposal as out-and-out strikers, but Anderton thinks Pochettino has doubts over the quality of Kane’s striking counterpart.
“They need another striker to back up Harry because it’s probably fair to say that the manager doesn’t trust Janssen one hundred percent,” he said.
Tottenham have been involved in a title battle for the last two seasons but know that Premier League glory will escape their grasp again if league leaders Chelsea secure victory over West Brom on Friday.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Pau Lopez could be looking to quit Spurs this summer after Pochettino’s transfer plans were revealed.
