Tottenham pushing strongly to beat Chelsea to signings of wonderkid duo – report

By Harry Sykes

Tottenham and Chelsea are set for an all-London battle over the signatures of Fulham twins Ryan and Steven Sessegnon, according to a report.

Bleacher Report claim the bitter capital rivals “are likely to become embroiled” in a fight to land the 16-year-old sensations.

It is said that Tottenham are the club pushing most strongly to sign the Sessegnon brothers in what would be a double deal.

But Bleacher Report that Chelsea are also keeping close tabs on the youthful pair and are preparing to make a swoop if they are given indications that they could be available.

Ryan has made a huge impact as a rampaging left-back this season, with ex-Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer already claiming the wonderkid is better than Ashley Cole at the same age.

But Steven, who can play at left-back or in a midfield anchorman role, is also regarded as an outstanding prospect even though he has yet to make his senior Fulham bow and has only made two Premier League 2 appearances for the club’s Under-23s.

By contrast, Ryan has made 19 senior appearances for the Championship side and demonstrated the potential that has led to him being tipped as a future England international.

He has scored four goals and supplied three assists from his defensive station and also become the youngest scorer in Championship history.

Football Insider verdict:

Ryan’s reputation is rising by the week. Already a regular member of the Fulham squad, he has created waves with his astonishingly mature performances on the left flank this season. Less is known outside of Motspur Park about Steven, whose progress has been delayed by a knee injury last season, but he is also highly thought of at an academy which has a reputation for developing unpolished diamonds. Think Moussa Dembele (the Celtic one) and Patrick Roberts, to name two that have already delivered the goods in the Champions League. Fulham have high hopes that the Sessegnons can follow similar paths to the top.
