Tottenham blow as report delivers fitness update on 24-year-old ahead of Chelsea clash

By Will Butcher

Tottenham have suffered a blow ahead of their FA Cup semi-final after Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois returned to training on Wednesday, according to a report.

Courtois, 24, missed Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Man United after suffering an ankle injury, as Antonio Conte’s side saw their lead at the top of the table reduced to just four points.

However, Sky Sports claim that the former Genk goalkeeper could now be fit for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham, after returning to training.

It is believed that the Belgium international trained with his goalkeeping coach on Wednesday and will join the rest of his Chelsea teammates on Thursday.

This comes after the Mirror claimed Courtois was set to miss Sunday’s clash along with Spanish defender Marcos Alonso, who missed Sunday’s clash through illness.

The rivals go head-to-head for a place in the final as their heated, ongoing battle at the summit of the Premier League continues with just six league games to play.

Spurs will be hoping for a repeat of their last outing against Chelsea, which saw Dele Alli score a sublime brace in a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane back in January.

A win at Wembley on Sunday will see Mauricio Pochettino’s side advance to the final, with Arsenal and Man City playing the other semi-final.
