Tottenham close in on Jonathan David after new talks – sources
Tottenham are in talks with Lille over the signing of forward Jonathan David, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed (July 18) that Spurs were in ‘daily contact’ with the Canadian 24-year-old as they look to bring in a new striker.
Lille president Olivier Létang has admitted that the forward is likely to leave this summer and it is believed he has told David that he can leave for around £20million.
Interest in David is thought to be high and Spurs will have to beat Roma and fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea and West Ham to his signature.
It’s been a relatively quiet summer transfer window at the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium with the club yet to sign anyone over the age of 18.
Football Insider revealed (July 25) that Spurs have agreed a deal for the signing of South Korean wonderkid Min-hyuk Yang.
Tottenham want Jonathan David to be Harry Kane replacement
It was always going to be hard for Spurs to replace talismanic forward Harry Kane after his move to Bayern Munich but it was a particularly disappointing campaign for Spurs strikers last season.
Heung-Min Son ended the season as Spurs’ top goal scorer with 17 in all competitions two goals ahead of Richarlison on 15.

David has managed to score 26 goals for Lille in each of the past two seasons, that’s a vast improvement on what Spurs currently have up top.
The Canadian also played an integral role in his country’s Copa America campaign, scoring twice to help Canada reach the semi-finals before being knocked out by Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
In other news, Tottenham are interested in making a move for 23-year-old Aston Villa midfielder.
