Tottenham plot move for £18m-valued Bundesliga defender – report

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Benjamin Henrichs, according to a report.

The Daily Mail have claimed on their website that the north London club are eyeing the 20-year-old right-back, but they are also keeping their options open as they seek a replacement for Kyle Walker.

It is said that Henrich’s representatives are keen to discuss a move for the youngster, but Leverkusen are reluctant to let him leave and value him at a massive £18million.

The north London club are casting their eyes over the Bundesliga and it is said that Spurs have also made an enquiry about Hoffenheim’s Jeremy Toljan.

However, he is also attracting interest from giants Bayern Munich and Real Madrid and a move to either may look more lucrative for the youngster.

Henrichs is certainly not a downgrade however and last season he played 37 times in all competitions, including seven appearances in the Champions League.

He has also been capped three times for the Germany national team and the defender helped his country lift the Confederations Cup this summer.

Football Insider verdict:

With five years remaining on his contract Henrichs there isn’t much room for Tottenham to try and negotiate a lower price than the £18million quoted. However, given Spurs sold Walker for a massive £45million alongside the riches of the Premier League the club certainly have a large money haul to act with. Henrichs is also a young talent who is only expected to get better and he would certainly prove to be a wise investment by a number of clubs. Tottenham already have the emerging Kyle Walker-Peters in their youth ranks, but with Henrichs they could secure their first choice right-back for years.
