Tottenham dealmakers hailed for sealing Emerson deal as ‘very scary’ situation exploited – pundit
Noel Whelan has hailed Tottenham deal makers for taking advantage of Barcelona’s “very scary” financial situation as they finalise the deadline-day Emerson deal.
The former Leeds United hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Spurs’ hunt for the defender.
Earlier today, this site revealed Emerson is undergoing a medical in Spain ahead of sealing his move to Tottenham from Barcelona.

Spurs agreed a £25.7million deal with Barcelona on Monday for the 22-year-old and the move is set to be finalised before tonight’s transfer deadline.
The Brazil international is set to become the latest player to leave the La Liga giants amid their financial problems.
Whelan has praised Spurs for striking while the iron is hot.
“Right now, you’re looking at a club who are financially struggling,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.
“They need to get players off the wage bill and get some money back in.
“It won’t make any dent in the finances really, it’s very scary to see just how in debt Barcelona are.
“I think sometimes you can strike when the iron is hot when clubs are looking to get rid of players, and that’s what Tottenham have done.
“You can get them at a really good price and you know the brilliant quality you will be getting from Barcelona.”

Royal has featured in all three of Ronald Koeman’s side’s league games this season and started the 2-1 win over Getafe on Sunday.
Royal is set to become Tottenham’s fifth signing of the window following deals for Bryan Gil, Cristian Romero, Pape Sarr and Pierluigi Gollini.
