Tottenham expert excited by what he's seen from new signing Sayers

Charlie Sayers has proved himself as an “exciting” player to keep an eye on after quickly settling at Tottenham.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Sayers, 17, popped up with a last-gasp winner as Tottenham’s Under 18s beat Southampton’s Under 18s on 15 January.

Spurs only confirmed the capture of Sayers on 7 December after he left Southend.

He was immediately slotted into the starting XI at Under 18 level has left Wenham impressed.

“He’s had a really positive impact,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s already captaining the Under 18s every week and now he’s popped up with a late winner.

“At that point in the game, it was 1-1 and Southampton were down to 10 men.

“We were throwing everything at them to try and get the win and Sayers was the man who managed to get on the end of a cracking cross.

“He is really settling in well since that move from Southend, it looks like there has been no settling in period.

“I’m so excited by him and to see how well he can do before the end of the season.”

Tottenham had been in the market for a young left-back after losing Dennis Cirkin, 19, to Sunderland in August, in a deal first revealed by Football Insider.

It is understood Sayers is a lifelong Tottenham fan.
