Tottenham expert shares Antonio Conte’s reaction amid ‘terrible’ Matt Doherty update

John Wenham has been left “gutted” by the news Tottenham defender Matt Doherty is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Spurs expert Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, reacted to a “terrible” update on the 30-year-old.

On Sunday (10 April) Alasdair Gold reported Doherty will miss the rest of this season with a knee injury.

This came after he was brought down by a heavy challenge from Matty Cash in the early stages of Spurs’ 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday (9 April).

Cash did win the ball but followed through on the Tottenham right-back with a scissor action.

Wenham has shared his disappointment at the news following Doherty’s improvement in recent weeks.

“Doherty obviously got injured 20 minutes in which was terrible for him,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It was noticeable that Conte was actually disappointed with that. He is a massive part of the squad at the moment.

“He’s established himself as one of the key players in recent weeks.

“Conte has clearly been impressed by him recently because he stayed at left-back despite Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon being on the bench.

“Doherty has improved so he has been rewarded for that. I can’t believe I’m gutted he’s out.”

Doherty received treatment on the pitch and tried to play on but was brought off in the first half.

Sergio Reguilon replaced him following his own return from injury.
