Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Wolves playmaker Ruben Neves ahead of the summer transfer window as doubt surrounds the future of fan favourite Mousa Dembele, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that Spurs have been watching Neves, 21, while they remain open for offers on Dembele, with his deal due to expire at the end of next season.
Neves has played a major role in helping Wolves win the Championship title this season after arriving for £15million from Porto in the summer.
His arrival at Molineux sparked outrage among other Championship sides, who complained to the EFL about how the West Midlands club were able to use super-agent Jorge Mendes to lure the Portugal international to a second-tier team when he is clearly of Champions League quality.
The Daily Mail has previously reported that the deep-lying playmaker, who has scored six goals in 40 total appearances this term, is earning £45,000-a-week on his deal at Wolves.
Football Insider verdict
Neves is clearly someone who is of immense quality and playing well below his level at Wolves. The Portugal international may have convinced a few deluded members of the Molineux fanbase that he wants to stay there for next season, but there’s no way that Mendes will turn down a Champions League team for his client if they come calling. The ex-Porto star would be a top addition in North London and Pochettino should definitely have him at the top of his wishlist if Dembele leaves. The Belgium international has been in stunning form this season but the lack of money being offered by Daniel Levy and lack of silverware is starting to turn a lot of heads.
