Tottenham to launch decisive move to sign south American ace - report

By Russell Edge

Tottenham are set to make a move to sign Inter Milan defender Jeison Murillo, according to a report.

Italian football news outlet Calcio Mercato claim that Spurs will come up against competition from North London rivals Arsenal and reigning Premier League champions Leicester for the 24-year-old.

It is said that Tottenham will launch a “decisive” move to sign the player in the coming weeks.

Centre-back Murillo, who has made 25 appearances for the Columbia national team, has been an important squad player for a struggling Inter Milan side.

The Italian giants have failed to secure a win in their last five outings, and find themselves down in seventh is Serie A.

This season, Murillo has gone on to make 32 appearances, finding the net just once.

For Spurs, Murillo could prove to be an alternative to Burnley defender Michael Keane if the White Hart Lane side fail to capture his signature, with SkyBet naming Everton as the favourites to sign the 24-year-old.

Football Insider verdict:

It seems that Mauricio Pochettino is sourcing alternatives to Michael Keane, who is looking less and less likely to make his way to North London this summer. With Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier linked to moves away from White Hart Lane, the Argentinian boss might be forced to do a complete rebuild of his defence this summer. Murillo is obviously unproven in the Premier League, and represents quite a risk for a side who have been competing for titles in the past two seasons. If they were to lose either of their star men, then they ought to be looking for proven performers ahead of unknown quantities like Murillo.
